Facto Teatro is a company dedicated to the creation of paper theater shows for all audiences. Founded in 2007 by its director, Alejandro Benítez, it focuses on experimenting with the approach to the bi-dimensional scenic space through acting, oral narration, the manipulation of flat puppets, live music and the combination of different languages ​​such as Spanish, English, German, Catalan and French, using paper as the main material for the production of their spectacles.

 

One of the main objectives of Facto Teatro is the diffusion of paper theater in Mexico and the world, through presentations, workshops, publications and collaborations with cultural institutions and national and international artistic companies.

 

Throughout its 10 years of existence and international career, the company has performed at important national and international venues and festivals in Mexico, the United States, France, Spain, Germany, Poland and Argentina: Festival Mondial des Théâtres de Marionnettes (Charleville -Mézières, France, 2013), Great Small Works' International Toy Theater Festival (New York, USA, 2010, 2013 and 2015), Schaubude theater and Salon K Das Kunts- und Kultur- Festival im Lettekiez, Berlin, Germany (2017) , Indie Grits Festival, Columbia, South Carolina, EU (2017), 9th and 10th Marathon theater for children and youth, El Granero Theater of the Cultural Center of the Forest, Mexico City (2017), Eppinger Figuren Theater, Eppingen, Lübecker Theaternacht, Lübeck, and Europäische Schule, Frankfurt, Germany (2016). The company has made collaborations with cultural institutions in Mexico and other countries, which has allowed us to have the premiere of our first show: Panteón de fiesta (2008), at the Music Center for the Performing Arts, Los Angeles, Cal., USA, and other four at the Preetzer Papiertheatertreffen in Preetz, Germany: Don Chico con alas / Don Chico with wings (2011), Duraznos azules / Blue Peaches (2013), Vom Esel, der auf Regen hoffte / The donkey who awaited the rain (2017), There's no home like place (2017).

 

Facto Teatro co-produces the International Paper Theater Festival (FITP), which takes place in Mexico City. Four editions of this meeting of creators of paper theater took place in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 with the participation of companies from Mexico, the United States, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Russia, the Czech Republic, the Republic Argentina and Brazil.

 

Its director, Alejandro Benítez, has given the "Workshop on approach to the construction and manipulation of paper theaters" at the Indie Grits Festival, Columbia, South Carolina, United States (2017), Eppinger Figuren Theater, Eppingen, Germany (2016) , La Titeria Casa de las Marionetas (2015 and 2016), Festival El gran papelón, City of Córdoba, Argentina (2015), Goethe Institute New York, Manhattan, NY, United States (2015), Teatro Casa de la Paz de la Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (2015, 2012, 2011), the X Fair of the calacas at the National Arts Center (2010), the Casa Talavera as part of the Re-Mex Festival, produced by the Goethe Institut México, CONACULTA, The British Council, and the Ministry of Culture of the DF, Room CCB, of the Cultural Center of the Forest, of the INBA (2012), and of private form in the city of Mexico from the year 2012 to the date.

Alejandro Benítez

Founder, director, actor, puppeteer, drummer.

Actor, puppeteer and drummer. He studied Dramatic Literature and Theatre Arts at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters, UNAM. He took an improvisation workshop in the Latin American League of Improvisation and the acting workshop with the renowned Polish Director Ludwik Margules. He has worked as an actor, puppeteer, live and studio musician in more than 26 plays. Among his puppet teachers and mentors are Pablo Cueto, Great Small Works from NY City, Marty Robinson (Telly Monster from Sesame Street), Fred Stinson (Radical Sheep Productions Inc., Canada), etc.

 

He has worked as an actor with directors such as Rubén Ortiz (La lucha con el ángel, Troka el poderoso, Dos pueblos/Two towns), Lidya Margules (Chilpancingo #13, La última persona, La Tlanchana, La nueva Alejandría), Jonathan Walters from Handtomouth Theater from Portland, OR. (Dos pueblos/Two towns ), José Antonio Cordero (Otra Paz, otra luna), Arnaud Charpentier (Nueva York versus El Zapotito), Carlos Corona. (Marinero que se fue a la mar, Sueño de una noche de verano, etc.), among others.

 

As a puppeteer he has worked in theater (Teatro Tinglado, grupo Espiral directed by the late puppeteer master Mireya Cueto, Figurat, Facto Teatro), TV (Plaza Sésamo, the Latin American version of Sesame Street) and internet TV (Títere fue, by Zoom.tv).

 

He is co-founder and CEO of the group Facto Teatro since 2007, with whom he has performed in Mexico, United States, France, Spain, Germany, Argentina and Poland.

As an actor and puppeteer has participated in national and international festivals and scenarios such as 10° Festival Internacional de Teatro Mercosur. Río Cuarto, Córdoba, Argentina (2015), Encuentro Nacional de Artes Escénicas Asociadas al Papel. Córdoba, Argentina (2015), Great Small Works' Traveling International Paper Theater Mini-Festival. New England, USA (2015 and 2013), Puppets in the Green Mountains Festival, Brattleboro, Vermont, USA (2015), Festival Mondial des Théâtres de Marionnettes, Charleville-Mézières, France, Cultural Institute of Mexico in París, (2009 and 2013), Preetzer Papiertheatertreffen, Preetz, Germany (2010, 2011 and 2013), Rencontres Internationales de Théâtres de Papier, Champagne, France (2009 and 2011),  etc.

 

He is director, curator and co producer of the International Festival of  Paper Theater (Festival Internacional de Teatro de Papel), held in Mexico City. There have been four editions of this meeting of paper theater makers in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015, with the participation of companies from Mexico, USA, France, Germany, UK, Russia, the Czech Republic, Argentina and Brazil.

Antonio Cerezo

Actor, director, puppeteer.

 

Born in Mexico City in Sept. 1972, he pursued drama and acting studies at the National University of Mexico and in New York City. Since 1992 he’s worked professionally as an actor in Mexico City, the United States and Europe. At the age of 26 he was invited to join the company La MaMa Theater in New York City, where he spent 7 years performing at venues like La MaMa etc, Lincoln Center, Mabou Mines, The Ohio Theater and St Ann’s Warehouse. Since 2007 he’s based in Germany, where his work as actor, director and choreographer has been seen in venues like: Berliner Festspiele, Volksbühne, Thalia Theater, Theaterhaus Jena, Sophieanseale, Chamäleon Theater among others. His project "There's no home like place" got the grant Interkulturelle Projekte 2016 from the Berlin Senate. In 2018 he got the FONCA three year grant "Scenic creators with trajectory" 2018-2020.

Armando Tapia

Actor, director, puppeteer.

He has 29 years of professional experience, mainly in theatre, between what stands out the next:

director and actor of the next cabaret shows; UN ACTOR SE COMPAR (work participant of the Festival Internacional de Cabaret) and NIÑAS DE ARRABAL, EL INICIO&, among others.

Ernesto Anaya

Musician, composer and musical arranger.

Multi instrumentalist of more than 30 instruments among which are Viola, Violin, Guitar and several more of string, breath and percussion that are used in the traditional music of Mexico, the Caribbean and South America.
 

He studied composition at the National School of Music of the UNAM. He studied viola and violin with masters Ulises Gómez, Piotr Vodopianov and Javier Montiel at the School of Artistic Perfection Ollín Yoliztli, studied singing with maestro Manuel Peña.
Producer, arranger, singer and director

 

He has collaborated as a producer, arranger, singer and director in different projects with artists such as: Astrid Hadad, Regina Orozco, Luís Eduardo Aute, Juana Vargas, Amparo Ochoa, Alma Velasco, Pepe Frank, Chucho Ferrer, Xavier López "Chabelo", Fernando Delgadillo , Lourdes Ambriz, Eugenia León, Enrique Quezada, Lila Downs, Omara Portuondo, The Folklorists, Oscar Chávez, Adriana Landeros, Alejandra Robles, Susana Harp, Guadalupe Pineda, Sherry Bottle, Aleks Sintek, Ranarex, Zazhil, Ana Torroja, Bandula, Benny, Betsy Pecanins, Camila, Victor Garcia, Shakira, Jaime Flores, Ma.
